The death of Han Solo will remain one of the most powerful and iconic moments in the entire Star Wars movie franchise.
The popular hero was killed by his own son as his lifelong best friend watched on in despair.
Even worse, Chewbacca utterly failed to take revenge after seeing Han Solo killed in front of his eyes.
Or did he?

Chewbacca lets out a huge cry as Kylo Ren struck down his father but a new argument suggests he may have actually been celebrating the event and even helped it happen.
Fans have frequently struggled with the inexplicably terrible shot the Wookiee fires at Kylo. Chewbacca is an excellent marksman and should not have missed so badly. Unless he never intended to kill the young Sith and was simply covering his own tracks?
Remember, the Wookiee swore a life debt to Han Solo and will only be freed if his human friend dies.

Reddit user Prentle has possibly come up with one of the most upsetting and controversial Star Wars ideas ever.
Prentle said: “Chewbacca, reaching his latter years and tired of the adventure and risky living wanted to bring an end to the oath of serving a life debt to Han. Chewbacca let Han die knowing Kylo Ren would not change his ways and would complete his path to the Dark side.
“Chewbacca had a clear shot and would have been able at least to 'wing' Kylo. Working on the theory that Chewbacca watched Kylo grow up, Chewbacca was probably too emotionally attached to kill Kylo outright."

“Chewbacca also would have had the opportunity to warn Han in advance and to talk him out of the confrontation. “The shot that Chewbacca did take was an intentionally low powered shot so that any other witnesses would assume that Kylo's force powers absorbed the shot not that Chewbacca took no action.”
Somehow, it’s unlikely that this theory will gain much favour with diehard fans. Chewie’s devotion to Han Solo is taken as canon by most.
Most fans have also become resigned to the poor marksmanship of Stormtroopers when our heroes need to escape. Clearly Kylo Ren was needed alive for the next movies and thus Chewbacca suddenly failed to hit his target.
In secondary Star Wars material there is also plenty of evidence that Han actually tried to get CHewie to settle down on his home planet of Kashyyyk when the Empire was overthrown.
In the recent novel Aftermath: Life Debt by Chuck Wendig, Han tells Chewie: "No. No! You have to stay here (Kashyyyk). We fought like hell for this and now…this is yours. Okay? All yours. This is home. You got people here and I want you to find them. You hear me? That's my last demand. No arguments."
