Gwendoline Christie plays Captain Phasma in Star Wars
The Captain Phasma actress explained that director Rian Johnson was all ears when the stars of the sci-fi franchise were first getting to grips with his own plans.
“When Rian invited me to read the script, have my thoughts and then to come and discuss it with him — as he did all of the cast members — I was really thrilled to have an opportunity of a forum where I could put my ideas forward and have some back and forth about where we felt things were and where we felt they can go,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
“What I can tell you about the next Star Wars film is I think Rian does an exceptional job of going deeper, of going further, and really exploring what these relationships are.”
The Last Jedi is Johnson’s biggest project yet but thrilled Christie was already a fan of his work.

In the same interview, she beamed: “I was just so delighted to be in The Last Jedi, and for that to be directed by Rian Johnson, who is another director I’ve long admired since I watched Brick, actually; I thought that was a really brilliant piece of work.”
Captain Phasma became a fan-favourite character after 2015’s The Force Awakens, and Christie has hinted that we could be seeing much more of her this time around – quite literally.
Asked if the stormtrooper’s helmet will be removed, she joked: “It would see that that is what everybody wants. Isn’t it? Everybody wants that.
“So let’s just hope that everybody gets what they want.”

Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, also spoke about the “surprising” nature of the movie whilst at Disney’s D23 earlier this month.
“Everyone talks about how different the direction is to what people may have been expecting. That’s great, and a massive blessing from having three different writers and directors for the different films,” she told Access Hollywood.
“People have an opinion of where they want it to go. Everyone has an expectation.
“Some are going to be fulfilled and some not. The surprise will be wonderful.”
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out on December 15.
